Failures in the network, components, power supply, and environment may render hydro inoperable. By observing the indicator lights, operate status and Kernel Log, you can judge the reason why hydro is not operating and the hashrate is low (0). This article aims to help you figure out the main fault phenomena and causes of hydro, and propose solutions. It can help you troubleshoot independently, improve repair efficiency, and take measures to avoid faults and ensure the normal operation of hydro. The 4 ways to troubleshoot hydro are as follows:
- i. Check the ETH port light, fault indicator light and Normal indicator light
- ii. Observe the ETH port, indicator light and the running status
- iii. View the ANTMINER’s backend user panel interface
- iv. View the background Kernel Log of the ANTMINER
I. Check the ETH port light, fault indicator light and Normal indicator light
First observe the status of the ETH port light, fault indicator light and Normal indicator light, and preliminarily judge the fault of the hydro.
ETH port(Yellow) |
long light | extinguish | Fault light (Red) | extinguish | flash | extinguish | long light |
ETH port (Green) | flash | extinguish |
Normal light (Green) |
flash | extinguish | long light | extinguish |
Working conditions | Normal | Fault 1 | Working conditions | Normal | Fault 2 | Fault 3 | Fault 4 |
Fault 1:
- 1. The network cable may not be plugged in properly — Re-plug the network cable;
- 2. The network cable may be damaged—Replace the network cable;
- 3. The switch is not powered on — Power on the switch;
- 4. The switch is damaged — Replace the switch.
Fault 2:
- 1. The hydro is at high temperature — After powering on the miner, check whether the interface valve is open and whether the water temperature is normal.
Fault 3:
- 1. Crash and unable to obtain IP — Restart-Reset, if still unable to obtain IP, the control board is faulty.
Fault 4:
- 1. IP is incorrect or IP conflict — Change IP;
- 2. Network settings error — If you can get the IP, change it directly in the background, if you can’t obtain the IP, change it in the background after reset;
- 3. The information of the three mining pools is all wrong— Check if the mining pool configuration is correct.
II. Observe the ETH port, indicator light and ANTMINER’s operation status
Judging the failure of the hydro by observing the ETH port, indicator light, PSU and the miner status.
Hydro’s operation status | Failure causes | Solutions |
ETH port light
Normal light extinguish Fault light extinguish |
1. Unable to obtain IP | The control board is faulty, it needs to be replaced. |
2. No data on the backend | Try Restart-Reset-Flash firmware-Restart in sequence, if it cannot start normally, the control board is faulty and needs to be replaced.
ANTMINER can’t operate | 1. PSU or voltage is unstable | Unplug – Plug the power cord, if it drops again, replace the PSU. |
2. The control board power cord is not plugged in tightly | Plug in the control board power cord tightly.
3. ANTMINER is not powered on | The control board is damaged.
4. PSU is too cold | Put the PSU in a warm environment to preheat.
PSU and ANTMINER can’t operate | 1. PSU failure | Replace the PSU. |
2. PSU overheating | Cool down the PSU and restart.
3. The power supply copper row screws are loose. | Tighten the power supply copper row screws.
ANTMINER is at low hashrate | 1. Hashboard chip is damaged | Check whether the power cord of the hash board is plugged in tightly, and restart. |
2. Insufficient power consumption of the PSU | Missing hashboards or hashrate is 0, need to replace the PSU, restart.
3. Hashboard hardware with a high errors rate | Restart, if it cannot operate normally, hash board is damaged.
4. Missing hashboards | Restart, if it cannot operate normally, hash board is damaged.
5. Cable damage | Replace the cable. |
III. View the ANTMINER’s backend user panel interface
The above is to judge the failure of the ANTMINER from the outside, and then check it visually from the background. The Figure 1-1 below shows that the hashrate of the hash board 2 is zero, and Figure 1-2 shows that the hashboard 3 is abnormal high temperature.
Figure 1-1 The hashrate of the hash board 2 is zero
Figure 1-2 The hash board 3 is abnormally high temperature
IV. View the background Kernel Log of the ANTMINER
If there is no data on the backend of the ANTMINER or the failure cannot be judged, you need to check the background Kernel Log. Open the background and click Kernel Log to view the detailed operation log. The following are common log failures and solutions:
Kernel Log: It keeps records of ANTMINER’s operation stages, which serves a way to troubleshoot some common issues.
Note*: The following failure symptoms are only for ANTMINER reference only.
Fault 1: Can’t connect to the Internet
- Solution: Check the network cable, replace the network cable, check the switch, and check the network connection status.
Fault 2: The server is high temperature
- Solution: Check whether the interface valve is open and whether the water temperature is normal.
Fault 3: PSU failure
- Solution: Plug and unplug the PSU cable, upgrade the firmware, replace the PSU, check whether the power supply copper row screws are tighten, or repair it.
Fault 4: ANTMINER’s hash board 4 is missing
- Solution: Restart, power off, and check whether the cable is loose. If it is still abnormal, repair.
Fault 5: Cannot find hash board
- Solution: Restart, power off, check whether the cable is loose, whether the power supply copper row screws are tighten, restore factory settings, upgrade the latest firmware, or repair it.
Fault 6: Chip test abnormal
- Solution: Restart, flashing with SD card, if still abnormal, repair.
Fault 7: Missing chips
- Solution: Restart, flashing with SD card, if still abnormal, repair.
Fault 8: Voltage error, initialization failed
- Solution: Restart, plug and unplug the cable, flashing with SD card, and configure the mining pool in the background.
